November’s Book To Live By

This month’s Books To Live By selection is a perfect companion to brighten the impending change in seasons, the chaos of the holidays and those quiet winter nights.

From celebrated author and seasoned psychotherapist Gunilla Norris comes one of the best spiritual practice books of 2014.

Our November selection is….

Match: Bringing Heart and Will into Alignment by Gunilla Norris.

Gunilla guides you through a transformational 90-day journey that motivates you to commit to yourself and your inner light. The beauty of her prescribed practice lies within its simplicity and the profound aftereffects.

“For ninety consecutive days, light a match with purpose, a feeling or a desire in mind,” writes Norris. If you happen to miss a day, you simply restart the 90-day countdown. You’ll be inspired and encouraged to not only nurture, but also to fire up your inner most desires, truths and feelings.

As the author of some of my all-time, favorite self-improvement books, such as Inviting Silence: Universal Principles of Meditation and Sheltered in the Heart, I can attest to Gunilla’s expertise in stripping away external and internal barriers to help you get to the heart of whatever it is that you truly want.

Match makes a beautiful gift for the upcoming holiday season and an even better “just because” gift to yourself! Here’s to lighting the spark within this winter! 🙂

With lots of love~

October’s Book To Live By

This month’s Books To Live By selection highlights the featured guest and theme for our October monthly members’ Club package: Behind-the-Scenes of a Successful Writer’s Life with Sheila Weller.

From journalist and New York Times best-selling author Sheila Wellercomes an inside look at three of the best-known women in TV news and how they navigated and shaped the front lines of broadcast journalism.

Our October selection is….

The News Sorority: Diane Sawyer, Katie Couric, Christiane Amanpour — and the (Ongoing, Imperfect, Complicated) Triumph of Women in TV News by Sheila Weller.

Through exhaustive research and extensive interviews with people closest to the three newscasters, author Sheila Weller has pieced together enthralling profiles of these media trailblazers and how they came to pave the way for women in TV news for years to come.

Inside these pages, you’ll get an exclusive and intimate look at the extraordinary odds, prejudices and personalities that these women were up against, on and off the screen.

Each woman’s journey captures so much of what many of us have gone through in our careers, no matter what the industry.

Sheila is the ultimate storyteller and The News Sorority reveals Diane, Katie and Christiane as you’ve never seen them before.  You’ll find many of the strategies they used in going for their dreams applicable to your own life.

We loved Sheila’s last best-selling book Girls Like Us: Carole King, Joni Mitchell,  Carly Simon — And the Journey of a Generation.

The News Sorority is equally as powerful and fascinating. Enjoy reading and let me know what you think!

Love,

Debbie Signature

P.S. Are you in our Women on Fire monthly members’ club? If not, I invite you to join us today!  You will automatically be entered to win a signed copy of The News Sorority during our inspiring live video coaching call and chat for members-only on Tuesday, October 14.

September’s Book To Live By

It’s back-to-school season and this month’s Books To Live By selection highlights the astonishing truth behind a well-loved history lesson.

This fall, I invite you to explore how one of the most famous and cherished American icons came to be. It’s Lady Liberty as you’ve never known her!

Our September selection is….

Liberty’s Torch: The Great Adventure to Build The Statue of Liberty by Elizabeth Mitchell.

Before I share a sneak peek of this enchanting book, I have a little quiz.

True or False:

  1. The Statue of Liberty was a gift from the French.
  2. The face of this beloved sculpture is of a woman.
  3. The Statue of Liberty was created to stand as a symbol for freedom.

If you answered true to any of the above, you (and me too!) have been misinformed!

From extensive research and original letters, author Elizabeth Mitchell has pieced together one of history’s most overlooked entrepreneurial success stories, allowing her also to refute the blindly accepted explanation of how the Statue of Liberty made her way to America.

This book takes you back to the 1800s where you follow the dreams and determination of a young French sculptor, inventor and entrepreneur Frederic Auguste Bartholdi who stopped at nothing to see his vision through.

He needed commissions and had a dream to build the world’s largest sculpture at the headwaters of the Nile River. When Egypt turned down his project idea, he set his sights on America.

Liberty’s Torch reads far more like an adventure than a history lesson. It will leave you marveling at how our beloved Statue of Liberty came to be!

A great read and lesson for your entire family, especially if you have school-aged kids, I strongly recommend Liberty’s Torch!

 With lots of love ~

January Book Of The Month

Welcome to a brand-new year of exciting, popular Books To Live By to inspire your amazing life!

Our selection this month highlights Women on Fire’s January membership program theme of “Stepping Powerfully into the New Year,” and I can’t think of a better person or guide to help us set our souls on fire in 2014.

My dear, long-time friend, Marianne Williamson, has released a daily devotional to inspire and ignite your whole heart for the next 365 days.

A Year of Miracles by Marianne Williamson- Women on Fire January Book To Live By

A Year of Miracles, Daily Devotions and Reflections (amazon link) is Marianne’s latest and greatest work.

Marianne is an author, speaker, spiritual teacher and now California congressional candidate, and she is also a powerful voice for women everywhere looking to reconnect with their hearts and higher selves.

I’ve mentioned her work many times here before. A Return to Love and Illuminata of two of my very favorites, and A Year of Miracles falls in line as another perfect companion to any of her books.

It’s a collection of Marianne’s teachings that remind you of your inner power as a miracle worker, change maker, and love generator.

Marianne says, “Anyone can be a miracle worker—anyone who chooses to be.” This book shows you how to do just that. It encourages you to embrace the momentous shift your life can take when you let love in and let go of fear.

Each day’s reading is packed with loving, down-to-earth insights. It’s my new favorite way to start the day—with a cup of coffee, as I sit down at my desk in the mornings, and sometimes even before I make it out of bed.

Here are a few gems from this latest book:

  • It’s not enough to wash yesterday’s dirt off your body. Wash yesterday’s stress off your mind.
  • Exercise your attitudinal muscles like you exercise your physical muscles, and you’ll have more than a new body — you’ll have a new life.
  • There’s enough love in the world to create peace on earth. What’s lacking is the collective conviction that we should.
  • There can be no darkness where I provide the light.

I started my copy on the first day of the new year, and the beauty of this devotional, unlike many others, is that it isn’t organized around actual dates, so you can start Day 1 whenever you are ready. Or better yet, just open it to a new page everyday.

A Year of Miracles truly is one of those books that every woman should own—every man, too :)—and I hope you treat yourself in this new year, to kindle your goals and discover the miracles, by purchasing your copy today!

And as always, let me know as the love and insights unfold.

November Book Of The Month

This month’s Books To Live By choice highlights our November membership program theme — The Courage To Tell Your Story.

With Thanksgiving coming and the publication of powerful stories in Women on Fire book, Volume 2 only weeks away, our recommended book this month weaves together gratitude and collective storytelling.

From the creator of Story Corps, the popular radio project often heard on NPR, this book features vignettes of what it means to be grateful, to be in love with your life, and to be brave enough to share your story with others.

Our November selection is….

Ties That Bind: Stories of Love and Gratitude from the First Ten Years of Story Corps (amazon link) by Dave Isay

Story Corps is an oral history project started by Dave Isay to provide the opportunity for people of all backgrounds and ages to record, share and preserve the stories of their lives. Since its start, Story Corps has recorded more than 45,000 interviews with 90,000 people.

Ties That Bind is a collection of conversations from those recordings that will introduce you to a variety of everyday people who have faced incredible odds, lived through unspeakable acts, and stand to tell the tale of how they have survived and healed.

What I loved most about this book is the reaffirmation of just how freeing it is to tell your own truth. The vulnerability of each contributor is deeply moving and the book will touch your heart.

Ties That Bind is a perfect gift and a great read for your entire family over the holidays. It’s the kind of book you pass around the table to share a favorite story — or 10 in it!

Hope you get a chance to read it and, as always, let me know your thoughts when you do.
